Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt

Updated: Apr 1

Looking for a fun and different way to enjoy an Easter Egg hunt?  Try this glow in the dark Easter egg hunt.  A few year ago during the pandemic I was looking for a fun and different way to enjoy an Easter Egg hunt since so many of our usual activities were cancelled. This glow in the dark egg hunt was a hit from the start and no matter the weather, whether you need an alternative idea for indoor egg hunts or just a unique experience for Easter this year, it’s one of my family’s favorite fun Easter egg ideas.

It just takes a few of the following supplies and a little setup for a fun way to celebrate for kids of all ages! Add this fun glow-in-the dark Easter egg hunt to your Easter bucket list this year.

Set of finger lights (found here) or Mini Glow Sticks (found here)

Plastic Easter Eggs (found here)

Tape or Rubber bands (as needed)

It’s time to assemble those eggs now that you have all the right supplies. I like to use the finger lights because you can reuse them over and over again, night after night, and year after year. The kids love this activity so much, we end up doing multiple rounds. However, you can also use glow stick bracelets or small glow sticks. The one downside to that is you can’t reuse them year after year but the glow sticks make a fun prize. If you use the finger lights, turn them on and place them inside each plastic egg. If you eggs don’t stay closed you can affix them with a piece of tape or rubber band the egg shut.

Then, hide them around your house and wait until it gets dark and place them in an open space in the backyard for an outdoor egg hunt. You can hide them in more discrete places for the older kids for a fun nighttime activity. Since glow sticks and finger lights come in a variety of colors, you can assign a different color to each person so the kids can search for their eggs at their own pace.

Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Variation Fun Ideas

You can place candy inside each egg but it might dim the light so consider giving prizes for most eggs found.

Instead of candy, you could consider putting a little money in each egg. My mom has an annual adult Easter egg hunt and she loads the eggs with coins and bills. It gets quite competitive but it’s so fun.

If it’s raining or chilly, take the Easter egg hunt indoors.

Often the finger lights come in different colors, our pack came with 4 colors so you can have different kids look for different colored eggs.

Try a timed contest, to see who can find a set number of eggs the fastest.

Egg Your Friends & Family

During the pandemic, when we were all stuck at home we spread some cheer by “egging” friends. Print off the free printable pictured above (just sign up here).  While we aren’t stuck at home like in previous years, this fun tradition has stuck and we still enjoy “egging” our friends with these eggs (not the other eggs, that’s not very friendly).

Make up some eggs, hide them in the yard, and tape the sign to the door. Ring the doorbell and dash away.  It is sure to bring a smile to someone’s face this Easter!
